The Eyeliner Conundrum

19 Apr

Liquid eyeliners are the best and the worst thing that can happen to your eyes. Best if you get it right, and worst if you mess up and end up looking like you got into a drunken brawl. I have long since learnt that the best way to get the eyeliner right is to have a steady hand (stating the obvious, but there is no other way around the damn thing!). Also, use the liner that you are most comfy with, not something everyone else is supposedly using. Here are some of my fav styles in eyeliner make-up:

  • Cat Eye

The Cat eye is the classic winged eyeliner technique that looks great with right about any attire. you just have to be careful about the rest of your make-up. Dark shades of lipstick look great with this kind of eyeliner, and the nude bottom of the eye balances the look not making you look too decked up.

  • Open Wings

Phew! It took me some time to get this right as the wings kept getting too close to each other. This look is perfect for a casual party, or a girls’ night out. Try and keep the rest of the make-up light or nude to neutralise look, unless of course you are actually aiming at being the center of attention; now who doesn’t want that!

  • Arabian Eye

This is by far my favourite most one, as it outlines your eyes perfectly making them look so gorgeous. Make sure that the eyeliner is meeting at both the corners of your eyes, and the outline looks like an almond. This eye make-up would look perfect for traditional wear, and also when you want to make your eyes look mystic. Don’t hold back on the rest of the make-up, because with Arabian eyes you just cannot go wrong!

  • Drop Eye

Drop eye is not the usual technique one would use when doing the eye make-up, as it has the regular cat eye look on the top of the eye, but at the bottom it drops downwards, not really touching the outline of your eye. Once you get it right, this can be a unique look to flaunt.

  • Thin Eye

This basically simply outlines the top of the eye, perfect for daily wear, no wings, more like a string, it blends in with the rest of your make-up if you are looking to pull off a subtle look.

  • Go-thick Eye

This is literally Gothic eye, due to the thickness of the liner and the devil-may-care look that it gives you. You can either just do the top of the eye, and leave the bottom of the eye nude, or do both the outlines. Looks great on a LBD and also anything that makes you look like the newest recruit of the motorcycle gang!

Tip: If you find it hard to use the liquid liner for the lower outline of the eye, you can resort to a smudge-free and long lasting black eye pencil too, it will give you the same results.
